Work & Life Balance (A Post from Microsoft Website)

Need work-life balance? 7 tips

Lisa McGonagle has a husband, three kids and a public relations business in Boston. Her hectic life speaks volumes about what time management means to her. As she puts it: “I’m running all the time.”
The same may apply to you. And that makes time management central to the health and growth of your life, profession, and business. Truth be known: Not everyone has a genuine handle on the effective use of time. So you’re not alone. If you can relate, here are seven suggestions that may, to paraphrase rocker Mick Jagger, help you get time on your side:

1. Don’t overbook. This may seem unusual to people who try to crowbar as much as possible into every workday. The problem is: Things rarely go according to a prearranged agenda. That means a lot of time falling through the cracks chasing down appointments, unreturned phone calls and other items that simply aren’t going to happen. “Don’t try to plan on doing too many things,” says McGonagle. “Assume that only 50% of the things you plan on doing today will actually get done. If you don’t, you’ll just waste valuable time trying to find out why things didn’t happen.”

2. Prioritize ruthlessly. The secret to booking your time effectively boils down to knowing what’s important and what can wait. But it’s critical to use the sharpest knife possible in trimming the essential from the secondary. “Learn to ask questions that help you determine the level of urgency,” says Krista Kurth, co-author of Running on Plenty at Work. “Negotiate longer lead times whenever you can and don’t give into the “instant-and-immediate answer” syndrome. Treating everything as top priority is draining and depleting.”

3. Learn how to say no. One of the biggest land mines to effective time management is recognizing you don’t have to agree to everything and with everyone. Use your priority criteria to identify requests that simply aren’t worth your time. “I’ve learned that saying no to one thing opens the door to saying yes to something else,” says Kurth. “That can mean anything from cleaning my desk to getting a good night’s sleep.”

4. Organize.Bringing your time into line isn’t just a matter of scheduling. The mechanics of how you operate can be every bit as important. That means organizing most every element to allow as smooth a workflow as possible. “Everything in your business should be set up using logical systems so anyone needing anything can find it when they need it,” says Peggy Duncan, an Atlanta-based personal productivity authority. “Eliminating clutter and the chaos it causes will give you a gift of 240 to 288 hours every year.”

5. Use technology.Although personal habits and practices can do wonders for time management, don’t overlook technology as yet another weapon to make the most effective use of your workday. For instance,Microsoft Outlook with Business Contact Manager lets you organize a wide array of customer and product particulars, allowing quick and easy access. “Sticky notes are one of the worst things in the world,” says McGonagle. “You should live by your database. That way, nothing is ever forgotten.”

6. . . . but don’t overdo it.Many businesspeople are gun shy about using technology out of fear that they’ll remain too much in touch—that their time will be consumed by intrusive e-mails and cell phone calls. Fair enough. Part of effective time management is knowing when to shut things down. Turning off a cell phone or other wireless means of communication establishes boundaries. In short, it helps you balance your personal and professional time.

7. Know it won’t always be perfect.Try as we all may, time management isn’t an exact science. Don’t stress out—and waste time in the process—by obsessing over every second of time. Do what you can and enjoy whatever time you spend more pleasantly or productively. “Be grateful for what goes right and learn from your mistakes,” says Kurth. “Act as if they were scenes in a movie that you get to retake.”

SoO Enviable………

21 Sep

The room was so beautifully decorated the architect was so enviable.
Every one would have dreamed about ……
I plunged more in to that dream ………the indoor plantation has caste a more of a shadow on my mind……the exotic interior with flawless setting it seemed a room of royal highness with all the luxury and comfort. What more should I define……it took me a lot of time to bring myself back ….from the illusion that was at my foreseen ……one thing I forgot to add here is it was central air conditioned……what more would a person wants to bring peace and sooth to his or her mind……after writing the detail everyone wants to know what I am talking in about it……its actually the place where most of the people sit in our country and make decisions about our life …..In such a comfortable place where they have no idea about the miseries of life of people and how they are suffering from it.

How can it be possible? When you have all the luxuries of life at your doorstep and think about others who don’t even have a brick to build a house or eat a piece of meal. I am here talking about all the welfare organizations as well who sit in comfort and make decisions about our future and have no time to implement it. Pakistan is a country where nowadays implementation is needed rather than decision making. Sitting in a close room all day deciding what has to be done when so many people forced to live in the sunlight.

Secondly a lot of money from government is being spent on the Safety and Guard of various politicians and people on the others sides are being martyred on the roadsides and public places as if their existence is not mattered to anyone ………Rules should same for every individual in a country as it is in the teaching of Quran & Sunnah. Islam is a religion of equality. A bigger sin also goes with them which is a lie. They stand on big platforms and promise people and never fulfill it them. Another bigger Sin in my perception is they play with the feelings of the people of the country. They create hopes in eyes of the people and forget them as if they have never uttered anything from their mouth.

A ruler is a servant of the people of Islam. Both the ruler and the ruled will appear before Allah and account for their actions on the day of judgments. The responsibility of the ruler is heaver than the ruled. The Islamic state shall ensure a fair distribution of wealth but opposite is being practiced in our country. Upper class has everything, lower middle class is running here and there to make both ends meet and last lower class is empty handed waiting for the decision to be made and implemented. Any ordinary citizen of an Islamic state has the right to ask any question on any matter to the ruler and the government. I have never seen this happening here. Islam recognizes the preference of one over the other only on the basis of Taqwa (piety or fear of God). One who fears Allah most is the noblest in Islam. Changes and decision are only successful once they are implemented with fear Allah Pak in your heart.

2015

21 Sep

In 2005 Pakistan was struck by serve jolt of earthquake. Most of the devastation hit the north and the Azad Kashmir. Nearly 86,000 people died I guess uncountable were homeless and nearly 1 lac were injured. In Islamabad Margala tower collapsed resulting several residents killed. It is also estimated that half of the effectees from the earthquake included the children.
The massive floods that began to hit Pakistan in late July have afflicted the country extremely. Seventy-nine of the country’s124 districts (24 in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa, 19 in Sindh, 12 in Punjab, 10 in Balochistan and seven each in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan) have been affected. Official estimates say 1,600 people have been killed and more than 17 million are affected by the catastrophe. The disaster has not only led to losses in terms of human casualties and large scale displacement but has also damaged the agricultural country’s major crops over an estimated area of more than 1.38 million acres which constitutes 30 per cent of Pakistan’s agricultural land.
This is the speculation report that I read from Dawn News. This catastrophic disaster took place in 2010 and still people are bearing its aftermath.
The question arises why is this happening? Why are we suffering through the wrath of Allah Pak.Harzat Ali R.A said “When some blessings come to you, do not drive them away through thanklessness.”
Similar is happening to our country ….we ourselves have created this all for us due to our sins and ignorance towards our religion ISLAM. As stated in the Holy Quran, “Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves.” We are not fair with ourselves, our brothers, friends or anyone. We have become selfish as we only think about ourselves above all. I don’t understand in what state of mind the Muslims of Pakistan are. Nearly all the educational systems in flood prone area have collapsed, livestock, farms everything has come to an end. In all these areas people have to start their lives form beginning with still empty hands…We should all join ask mercy and forgiveness from Allah Pak and be united for the sake of this at least so more destruction does not fall upon our state. I wish and pray by heart that 2015 brings happiness and prosperity for the country as we have seen enough destruction. InshAllah Ameen

Perception

20 Jun

Perception is how you attain awareness .Toward my point of view its a gradual process but restricting yourself on certain scale that only things that you want to hear or see is type of perception. Its sort of filtering a psychological process that is running in your mind it may be conscious or unconscious. It allows a certain individual to understand what he or she wants to understand at a particular instant.

People have created their own sphere of knowledge for ISLAM and have put boundaries against so there is no space of new rules relating to life walk through. In some cases I think its proven to be wrong because people having such perception are not welcomed with the ideas of innovation of any sort.
I am not a fundamentalist and I really don’t believe in the idea of secularization of religion. I have mentioned the theme fundamentalism here as its only associates in our side of world with people who talk religion and take it very seriously. Our religion Islam is a practical religion. The dos and don’ts of this religion are very simple not at all complex.
I just want you all to answer why the process of acquiring senses for understanding or perception dies when we are called fundamentalists or extremists……..?

Our perception towards our religion is not clear……..vague. We alter it according to our worldly needs and situations in most cases. I have seen many people assuming at a particular point that they are so right but they are not. Rules of the religion are already laid in perfect manner, and are there for us to obey them…..            For example none of us actually knows when Jihad is Farz on us….everyone has created his or her perception about it.

I think we have restricted ourselves and especially our brains. We are only trying to understand what we want to about our religion. We don’t put ourselves in deep thought regarding it. It a very selfish act growing inside us….Please uproot this act from you so we can bring best for our next Muslim Generation………   I just don’t know what conclusion will you all perceive from here but I want you all to be sure that we are all going through this psychological process we are only understanding about our religion what we want no more no less…

Brain or Drain the Brain

16 Feb

The most complex structure of human body is human brian. Its very unique part of of human body as it has ability to think, imagine, control and speech. It controls body temperature, blood pressure, heart rate and breathing. It accepts a flood of information about the world around you from your various senses. It handles physical motion when walking, talking, standing or sitting. It lets you think, dream, reason and experience emotions.

The average human brain weighs about three pounds and comprises the hefty cerebrum, which is the largest portion and performs all higher cognitive functions; the cerebellum, responsible for motor functions, such as the coordination of movement and balance; and the brain stem, dedicated to involuntary functions like breathing. The majority of the energy consumed by the brain powers the rapid firing of millions of neurons communicating with each other.

All of these tasks are coordinated, controlled and regulated by an organ that is about the size of a small head of cauliflower! Your brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves make up a complex, integrated information-processing and control system. The scientific study of the brain and nervous system is called neuroscience or neurobiology. I think I have given you enough information about the brain in the terms of science especially human anatomy………

Adding to that mystery is the contention that humans “only” employ 10 percent of their brain. If only regular folk could tap that other 90 percent, they too could become servants who remember π to the twenty-thousandth decimal place or perhaps even have telekinetic powers. Yet the are many humans who are calculators and are able to make calculation in air. Ufffffffffffff I have given you enough aren’t you tired of this ………All I am here to tell you that there is no scientific myth explaining that 10% of your brain is used so please use more of it.

The 10% myth mostly is misrepresentation of neurological research undertaken in the late 1800s or early 1900s when researchers either discovered that only about 10% of the neurons in the brain are firing at any given time, or announced that they had only mapped the functions of 10% of the brain at that time. There is not a direct relationship between the performance of the brain and its level of activation. So let’s leave the myth and think more to use your brain. If 90% of your brain would have been use d you would have left with the thinking power of sheep. (Dr.Chudler PhD Research Officer &Professor at university of Washington).According to him 100% brain is at the function based on how much blood is directed there. We are not sheeps we are human better capable .We can be distinguished if we use more of it. Let the “the men behind the machines not the machines behind the men” this can be done if we only DRAIN THE BRAIN………

SUCCESS !!

31 Jan
Winning Attitude of a Positive Self Image.
What is success?

If this question were asked to a group of people, each one would reply differently. To some, success to some success is money; to some it is health or t some, success is nothing else than achieving goals and targets. Where as, for a large no of peoples, happiness is success. In short it is something that has varied meaning from person to person. And interestingly, success within a person does not stay same for long. It keeps changing by the passage of time. Success for a person ten years back can be no more success for him now. Now the question arises if change is guarantees success, then what is the change we are talking? It is the change in opinion we have in
ourselves. It is called “self image”. Someone said I am beautiful, “WHAT U SEE ARE WHAT YOU GET AND WHAT YOU FEEL IS REALLY WHAT YOU ARE. It are not what you are that holds you back, but it is what you are not!!!” Self image is the fundamental key to understanding human nature. Change the self image, and everything changes: the behavior, the personality and all the parameters. If this change is positive, it brings prosperity. If this change is negative, it reins the personality… If we start building up self image right from the childhood…It is most common to hear that:
 I have a terrible memory
 I am too slow
 I am not a good cook
 I am never on time
 I am a loser etc

These are all perceptions about one that come the sub-conscious mind and are controlled by the mental picture that each one of us carries. Our self-image determines the kind and scope of the person we are. Our achievements are governed by our self-image.to subconscious mind, our imagination is our worked. Every success has to be dreamed first. It becomes the reality later. This is because the subconscious mind plays a vital role in pushing a dream to become a reality as it cannot differentiate between reality and fantasy. To be successful, the first and the most important thing are to require “The Winning Attitude” which only comes from the positive self image. Positive self image is the base to become a winner. So if a person possesses a positive self-Image and a winning attitude, he/she can climb even the highest mountain single handily…..

OBSESSION OF PERFECTION

24 Dec

Perfection in life is very important. It can be only done when we learn our responsibilities and how we pursue toward them. Perfection may lead us to an ideal life if we take it in right pattern. Studies of various Anthropologists show us that civilizations of past that have excelled had some perfection in their natures which lead them to grow. So perfection does involve meaning in our lives but we should not take it as matter of life and death. Obsession of perfection is wrong

I have seen people arranged their lives in a perfect cycle and if anything alters in their life or that cycle they frustrated. We should therefore open our selves to changes because our life goes through them all the time. This is what I believe…… It’s actually good if we stick ourselves to rules but going all the time for 99% right and thinking about 1% makes wrong will lead us to problems. Firstly you’ll not be able to concentrate on what you are doing as that 1% is always running at the back of your mind. We are always taught by our parents and teachers that we should be perfect in very thing. They say this because they anticipate good results from us and their duty as they are responsible for our futures. I am not asking you to stop yourself from being ambitious but be normal and trust yourself. People have become IMPERFECT in order to become PERFECT.

Another problem with people taking perfection too much seriously that they think very high of themselves. One thing should be kept in mind as by the law of nature we are created equal by Almighty ALLAH. The people around us are just like us normal human beings. Mistakes are made and each time we make one we learn from it .Its is yet another step toward progress. We should take things positively and should not make blunders out of small mistakes in order to attain perfection. Man since its creation is striving itself for the perfection. It increases its wants, desires and in order to fulfil his achievements of perfection he forgets the difference between “sins” and “rights”. These ideas which are embedded in our brains should be uprooted. We should be contented with what we have. Instead of” BEAUTY “Perfection is in the eye of the beholder and should be taken, not with what everyone else believes are perfect, but with what you see as the perfect you.

REFRAIN FROM WASTING FOOD

20 Dec

Food is the basic necessity of life. It is prerequisite and essential for all living things .With the blessing of ALLAH PAK it is present in huge quantities including all the types of food ranging from meat, poultry, fish, vegetables and fruits. The basic function of food is enabling our body to function normally. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.S.) recommended even for pious man the quantity of food “whichis just sufficient to keep his back-bone erect”. With the saying of Holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.S.) we come to know the concept of Balanced Diet which is very important. Only balanced diets consists all sort of the nutrients. As human being it’s our duty not to waste food. As our new generations will depend on it. In year 2020 the worlds’ population is likely to reach about 7.6 billion. Ifcritically we analyze it that means the amount of food we are using will not be sufficient by than. Due to this increase obviouslyurbanization will take place wiping out a lot of agricultural area.

This would greatly affect the food system of the world. Special attention should be laid on it. At present many third world countries are facing the problem of food regulations and consumption issues and food quality which should be given as foremost importance but least here.Nature has bestowed us with variety of blessings it’s upon us how we consume it. Food as the basic necessity should be an item which should be in reach of all citizens. It should be organized in such a manner by our government that it is with in reach of all rich and poor. Being Muslims we are the pioneers of equality same should prevail here as we have seen poor children and people scanning the dust bins and garbage for the bits of food. It’s a pity that we have five our more food items on our dinning table and yet we are not happy. We should refrain from wasting food. It should be consumed as per requirement. Islamic perspective of diet is the most simple and healthy as it said in QURAN-E-PAK “O you people! Eat of what is on earth lawful and good!” (2:168) “So eat of (meats), on which Allah’s name hath been pronounced if yehave faith in his signs.” (6:118) If we obey it we’ll lead a simple, energetic and healthy life. Allah has bestowed us with his blessings in unlimited pattern and but keeping the fact in mind we are answerable for our doings. So we should refrain ourselves from wasting food. We have seen in the functions even in the formal dinings the food of all variety is wasted. If we give ourselves a moment and think they are so many people hungry out there with literally no food. Eat only the food in the required quantity seeing food in a lot of variety makes us greedy and we eat more than our hunger. This again causes problems so we should only “eat to live” not “live to eat”.
